Just when you thought the Republicans couldn’t get any more unelectable, we have this gem from Mike Huckabee. Take a listen:
In case you had trouble with the video, here’s the complete line, as quoted by the Huffington Post:
“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”
Excuse me? Is it appropriate for a man running for President to be talking so casually about amending the Law of the Land in so drastic a manner as to convert the nation from a democratic, SECULAR republic to a theocracy?
I think not. But that’s what he said he wanted to do, change the law of the land that has stood for over 200 years as the gold standard of freedom and democracy in the world, to reflect what HE THINKS God wants it to say. America doesn’t need a theocrat in charge, and we especially don’t need a charlatan heretic like Huckabee in the White House.
Republicans should keep their filthy paws off the Constitution. It works fine the way it was written.
